Make A List Before Going Shopping
September 29, 2010 | In: Money Savings
Are you going to shop items for house? Then prepare a list of what you are going to buy before you step out of house. I don’t know about you but making a list has helped me a lot in saving money. I can think of two simple and one major benefit you can achieve if you prepare a list of items to buy before you leave home for shopping.
Simple Benefits
1. When you sit down to prepare a list of items to buy, you will often want to check for all the items that are not at home and are required to be bought. Without a list, you might not be so careful enough to do a through check of what needs to be bought. You will simply go to the store and try to remember things there itself, causing you to miss out items.
2. If you have to shop for a lot of items, chances are high that you will forget an item or two. Even though you remembered what all to buy before you left your house, but in midst of shopping you’ll forget a few items and realise only after you come back home.
Most Important Benefit
These days, most of the big stores display several items on their shop which lures us to buy things unnecessarily. This item displaying is one of the most awesome business tricks used by shop keepers to make people buy more than they had originally planned to. Since you are without a list, you end up forgetting an item or two thus searching for items everywhere in the shop. As you know if we see the product right from our eyes, chances are high we will remember that item. This makes you look at several other items and there is a high chance of some product catching your attention, making you buying it.
This unnecessary expense happens each and every time you go for shopping. However if you prepare a list, then you will only stick to buy what you’re written down on the list. You can even hand over the list directly to the shopkeeper and wait for him to get the stuff for you. The list you prepare ticks your mind to not buy anything apart from what is written on the list. The whole focus of your mind stays on the list and that is it. Now I am not saying that this unnecessary expense happens to every one of us, but it does to many of us. Count me in, I used to buy so many unnecessary things each time I went to buy stuff. Now that I use a pre-written list, several unnecessary expenses have stopped and that is helping me in saving more money.
