I am going to give away five forum administration tips for newbies in every part. Read below for the first five tips of Part 1 :-

Add Less Forums - When you are starting out with a new forum, make sure that you don’t add a lot of forums because it is difficult to fill in many forums when starting out. Keep the forum compact, so that it looks filled up. As a new forum gets very few posts and threads and the activity is less, if there will be fewer sections, they will look filled up and active. If you make a lot of forums, then many of them will look empty and dead as the forum isn’t active enough that all those sections can get filled up with new threads and posts. Don’t forget that empty forums are a turn off to visitors who will think that the forum is dead or very new and will look for alternatives.

General Chit Chat Section - A general chit chat section is a must for any forum. Majority of the members love to chit chat and talk random in the forums. The chit chat section is the prime offtopic zone. If you have created a forum then you should know that a the most amount of posts and activity in any forum is in the off topic sections and so it is very important for any forum owner to put such a section in their forum.

Be Lenient Towards Members - Make sure that you are not strict towards your members. Members of a newly started or a dead forum don’t like the admins to be strict at all. Remember that at this stage, it is your forum that needs members and not that the members who need your forum as there might be plenty of more active forums in your niche, which a member can join anytime for free. The faster you accept this fact, the better it will be for your community. A lenient approach towards the members can really be helpful in retaining the member base which is good for the future of the forum.

Try To Greet Members Personally - This is a very good idea, specially when you are starting out. Greeting members personally will make the members feel that the admins of the forum are very good natured and respect their members. By talking, you may also make new friends which will further aid to your forum’s activity. Members will get a warm welcome and will stay longer in your community.

Enhance Your Forum Slowly - Make sure that you don’t install all the good modifications all at once but install them in gaps of time. This way members always feel that something new is added to the community in gaps of time. This will ensure that members stay for a longer time on your forum, helps increasing activity. And try to present the modifications as something great you have done and don’t put it as “Just added the modification developed by someone, and it took just 2 minutes to do it”. Members should think that it is not so easy to implement new things and you are doing it for the good of the members and because you are serious with your forum.
